Are you tired of seeing that crooked fence of yours?

A nice solid and straight fence is an object of pride. But a crooked fence, one that dangerously leans in your neighbor's backyard is truly an eye-sore.

Introducing Fence Cleat

Fence Cleat is a novel and economical solution that wraps around the base of a 4 x 4 wooden post and that increases its lateral strength by as much as 200% under wind gusts of up to 100 kph (60 mph).

What you'll need

  • A hammer
  • A screwdriver
  • Six flat-head exterior wood screws (5 cm / 2 in).

Although not required, a level will come in handy as well as a garden shovel for clearing the dirt around the posts.

Easy steps

  1. Use a garden shovel to clear the post's base of dirt and debris.
  2. Separate the 2-piece base plate and firmly press down one of them to the ground. Then bang it in tight to the post with a mallet or hammer, protecting the end of the plate with a piece of wood.
  3. Insert the spike in the end slot with its angle facing towards the post. Gently bang it in the ground with the hammer.
  4. Set the strut in both the spike and base slots before securing it to the post with screws.

Repeat the procedure on the other side. Note that you will need to align the base plates' gutters so they properly slide into each other.
