What you'll need

Although not required, a level will come in handy as well as a garden shovel for clearing the dirt around the posts.

Easy steps

  1. Use a garden shovel to clear the post's base of dirt and debris.
  2. Separate the 2-piece base plate and firmly press down one of them to the ground. Then bang it in tight to the post with a mallet or hammer, protecting the end of the plate with a piece of wood.
  3. Insert the spike in the end slot with its angle facing towards the post. Gently bang it in the ground with the hammer.
  4. Set the strut in both the spike and base slots before securing it to the post with screws.

Repeat the procedure on the other side. Note that you will need to align the base plates' gutters so they properly slide into each other.
